Duty Counsel (Family Law)

Family Duty Counsel Services have been running since 2002 through a partnership arrangement with Legal Aid Ontario. Individuals meet with a legal advice lawyer to discuss matters of custody, separation, divorce, child support and a host other related matters. Individuals are welcome to bring a support person to help with clarification and translation.

The Family advice lawyer offers a critical and relevant service.

Women in violent and unsafe relationships have been informed of their legal rights and have been able to find the strength as a result of meeting with very experienced lawyers. Single mothers, with children, who are not receiving child support have been advised as to how to proceed and what rights they have can move forward to take action .Improving the quality of life for themselves and their children. These are some of the many examples where the service has had a tremendous impact on the lives of individuals, and families.

Experienced lawyers offer their professional expertise on a rotating basis each Wednesday night.

The service is offered on a “first come basis” starting from 6:00 pm until 8:45 pm each Wednesday evening at 151 City Centre Drive, Suite 501, Mississauga. Individuals come in and “sign up” with our receptionist and will be given an appointment time that evening to meet with the lawyer on site. Appointment times fill up quickly so you need to arrive early. You may apply for a legal aid certificate at Family Services of Peel, if you make an appointment with the Legal Aid Area Office (at 905.453.1723).
